What is happening to my body?

The transition into menopause is like being hit by a bus!

There is no manual

It makes you feel like you are going mad, strange things start to happen with your body which can lead to stress and anxiety, worried that you have an underlying health problem. Doctor Google starts to happen, but this can result in thinking the worst resulting in calls to your GP only to find your blood results are all normal and “no further action”, this can make you feel like you are imaging these strange things taking over your body, it feels like you have gremlins inside, or you have jumped inside someone else’s body. This transition can start before the age of 40 but most women notice small changes from the age of 40.

I remember on my 40th birthday

It was like a switch had been pressed and every year I seem to develop more symptoms, “I am falling apart”, only to know I am at the start of this very long journey, which can feel lonely.

The average age of reaching the menopause is 51 years of age

Symptoms vary through-out this natural phase of a woman's life and in some people can last for ten years after! There are no tests to detect this phase of our lives and every woman is different because of many factors such as your genetics, diet, lifestyle, family history and ethnicity.

Did you know there are more than 30 different menopausal symptoms?

It is difficult to recognise if it is the menopause because we can get most of the symptoms any time in our lives.

The reasons behind varied symptoms between different women are suggested to be related to a variety of different factors such as diet, smoking, exercise, reproductive history (if you started your first period at an early or late age), genetics, climate, socioeconomic status, beliefs and attitudes towards menopause may all contribute. For example, if you are a smoker and have a high body mass index (BMI) may predispose a woman to more severe or frequent hot flushes.

If only we were educated on what to expect through the menopause!

Education on what to experience, how to improve our diet and lifestyle to support this natural rollercoaster of a journey to limit or possibly prevent symptoms through to the other end would be a game changer!

Wouldn’t it be amazing if there was a FREE menopausal support group once a month for you to be able to learn about all the different stages of the menopause to help you to manage your symptoms, and to be with other like-minded people to share experiences so you can feel like your old self again? If this is something you would love to be part of email support@sandratoddnutrition.co.uk to register your interest.
